A cold wave washed over Arthur as he saw the book. The title, in a flamboyant script, read “The Professor’s Obsession.” The writing was undeniably familiar, mirroring his partner, Professor Eleanor’s, distinctive handwriting. He felt a sudden, inexplicable heat rising in his face. He sat down heavily in his favorite armchair, the springs groaning in protest.

He picked up the novel, his hands trembling. The opening chapter detailed their early days, the thrill of their first meeting, their shared love of obscure poetry. He didn’t know how to begin to process this. It was all a bit much.
