The blood drained from Sarah’s face as she saw the novel. It was tucked away, hidden beneath a pile of laundry on the bed, but the title, “The Architect’s Secret,” screamed at her. She felt like someone had punched her in the gut. Her partner, David, was an architect, yes, but he was also a man of few words, a man who preferred blueprints to prose.

She snatched up the book, her fingers fumbling with the cover. The first sentence leaped out at her, detailing her mannerisms, her habits, her inner thoughts. It was uncanny. It was chilling.

“David!” she shouted, her voice shaking. The bathroom door opened and David stepped out, soap still in his hair. His face went pale.
