“Listen, Jake,” the coach said gently, “we’re moving you to the second row in the scrum. Your height and strength… it’s what we need.” Jake, a flanker known for his speed and agility, felt a sudden loss of breath. The scrum was brutal, the physicality a different world.

He glanced at his teammates, most of them wearing faces of support. His best friend offered a reassuring smile. Jake had always relied on speed and open play, not the claustrophobic intensity of the scrum.

Jake swallowed, the dryness in his mouth amplified. He thought of the extra hours of training, the new techniques to master, the sacrifice. He took a deep breath and nodded slowly. He thought of the team's needs, their combined aim, and understood.
