Gemotions

The bride's joy was infectious, or so it seemed to everyone except Ethan. He spotted Sarah, his ex, amidst the throng of guests. The bright lights of the dance floor seemed to magnify the shadows under her eyes. She smiled, but it didn't quite reach them.

During the cake cutting, he noticed her slipping away from the crowd. He, in turn, found himself leaving his conversation.

He found her by the window, staring out at the manicured garden. He stood beside her in silence for a moment, and then gently touched her arm. "Beautiful venue," he said, hoping to keep the conversation light. She nodded, her gaze still fixed on the outside.
