The peeling paint on the door frame reminded her of a forgotten summer. The same creaky floorboards, the same sunlight streaming through the dusty windows. It was all a little too familiar. Walking through the school, Amelia realized she had known this place since she was a little girl. Now, her daughter, Chloe, would soon experience the same trials and tribulations.

She saw Mrs. Peterson, her fourth-grade teacher, her face framed by the same glasses and her voice just as gentle. Amelia remembered the comfort Mrs. Peterson had given her, the way she had always believed in her. She watched Chloe, and felt a strange urge to interfere, to protect.

She couldn't. It wasn't her place. As Chloe turned to wave, Amelia offered a small, reassuring smile, a silent promise to be there for her, no matter what.
