The world seemed to tilt on its axis as Chloe watched the tow truck reverse into her driveway. Her heart hammered against her ribs, a frantic drumbeat against the impending loss. She hadn’t paid the parking ticket; it was a mistake, an oversight. Now, her only means of getting to work, the only thing connecting her to her job, was being taken away. She thought of her two kids, and how they would need to walk to school in the cold. She bit her lip and fought back the tears. It was like a thief had just come and stolen her future.
