Gemotions

The flickering candlelight illuminated the small, cluttered room. Sarah saw the Korean language textbooks on the coffee table. Her partner, Jun, had been unusually quiet recently, retreating into himself. Now, the reason was clear.

A lump formed in her throat. She had always felt a pang of guilt that she didn't speak his language, that she couldn't fully participate in his family’s conversations or understand his cultural references. Jun was clearly trying to bridge the gap.

She picked up a textbook, gently turning the pages. The Korean characters were beautiful and foreign. The effort, the dedication…it moved her.

When Jun walked in, she looked up, her eyes bright with unshed tears. She made a gesture to the textbook.

“What's all this about?” she asked, her voice soft.
