Gemotions

The aroma of freshly baked bread filled the small kitchen. Maria saw the Italian language tapes on the counter, next to a cookbook. Her husband, Leo, was always bustling with energy, always cracking jokes. Lately, he'd been oddly withdrawn.

She remembered his family, their boisterous laughter, the way they spoke Italian so passionately. She understood then. He wanted to connect with her family in a deeper, more meaningful way, and felt he had been missing out.

Maria felt a swell of warmth. She placed the bread on the cooling rack, then went to the living room. Leo was sitting on the couch, watching television. She sat down beside him, leaned against him, and took his hand.

"That smells amazing, Leo," she said, her voice quiet.
