Gemotions

The package was long and thin, like a rolled-up poster. It leaned against her door, addressed to "Mr. Charles Baker." He’d been the previous tenant, a quiet man who’d kept to himself. She’d seen him once, briefly, during the move-in.

She bent to pick it up, the weight surprising her. She had to take it, to find him and return it. But the rain was coming down, the street glistening with the reflection of streetlights. It was too late to go out now, and it would likely get ruined.

She carefully brought it inside, setting it on the table. She ran her fingers along the cardboard. The package was secured with tape. Then she noticed the words "Original Artwork" scrawled across the side. She opened it, slowly unfurling it. It revealed a beautiful landscape painting, its colors vibrant against the muted tones of the room.
