Rain lashed against the windows, a relentless drumming that mirrored the frantic barking coming from next door. Liam pulled on his boots, his stomach churning with worry. He knew that the old fence was in disrepair.

The dog, a golden retriever named Goldie, was always desperate to escape. He saw her face pressed against the fence, eyes wide and pleading. He couldn't imagine being stuck inside on a day like this.

He cautiously opened the gate. Goldie, usually a bundle of boisterous energy, trotted towards him, whimpering slightly. Liam let her inside, knowing this was probably the third time this week. He patted her head, feeling a knot of concern in his throat.
