The scent of freshly baked bread filled the air, a tempting aroma that usually brought a smile to Clara’s face. Today, though, it felt… hollow. The familiar thump of a dog, a fluffy Samoyed named Snow, hitting their fence.

Clara watched from her kitchen window. The poor thing was always trying to join the kids playing in the park across the street.

She grabbed a dog biscuit from her pantry. She had gotten to know Snow's owner, who seemed overwhelmed. Clara knew the pressures they were under.

She walked over to the fence, holding out the biscuit. "Hey, Snow," she said, her voice soft. "Easy there."
