Liam stared at the email, the stark black text swimming before his eyes. The scholarship, the lifeline that allowed him to pursue his dream of studying architecture, was being retracted. A clerical error. The words seemed absurd, cold. He felt a profound sense of…concern, a sort of sinking feeling in his gut.

He pictured his parents, already stretched thin, and the late-night talks about how they would manage the tuition. He recalled the hours he’d put into his application, the sacrifices he and his family made. He knew he could take the blow, but the other person… He hoped they had a plan. He began drafting an email to the university, not to complain, but to understand.

His hands shook as he typed, his jaw clenched, and he began to wonder how he could help.
