He was stuck in traffic, fuming, when the familiar opening bars of his song, “The Painted Sky,” filled the car. The radio announcer didn't say who the artist was, and the rendition of the song was very different from his own style, almost unrecognizable.

He shifted in his seat, his irritation dissolving. This singer was really trying. He heard the singer's voice crack, and he remembered when he, too, had started, feeling the same way.

He found himself smiling slightly, the tension in his shoulders easing. He turned up the volume a little. He knew what it felt like to get a break.
