The concert hall was packed, and the opening act, a young band, took the stage. His song, "Midnight Bloom," was the second song on the set list. The lead singer’s voice, though not quite as powerful as he imagined, had a sweetness that was very effective.

He sat in the sound booth, a knot forming in his stomach. The song had given his own career a boost, but he knew how hard it was to perform it.
