Gemotions

The announcement hit Melissa like a physical blow. She couldn't breathe. The familiar office suddenly seemed alien, the once-bright colors muted, the hum of the computers a threatening drone.

She thought of the many people who would be affected. The janitor, Mr. Chen, who always had a smile for her. The marketing team, especially the new hires, full of ideas and ambitions. The thought brought tears to her eyes.

She decided to start small. She would stay late and help tidy up, to make sure that the place was as pleasant as possible for those who would be left behind. She felt she had to do something.
