Gemotions

"The estate is yours, Edward," the lawyer announced, his voice devoid of emotion. Across the room, Edward beamed, already envisioning the renovations, the parties, the life of luxury. His sister, Eleanor, however, had inherited a collection of antique maps and a crumbling observatory.

Eleanor traced the lines of a celestial chart, her fingers moving over the fragile paper. The observatory, she knew, had been their grandfather’s passion, a place where he had spent countless nights gazing at the stars. Edward, on the other hand, had only been interested in the money.

She felt a wave of despair wash over her as she imagined the observatory, abandoned and neglected, slowly succumbing to the elements. Edward, meanwhile, was holding court, surrounded by sycophants, his laughter echoing through the room.

She closed her eyes, fighting back the tears, and pictured herself standing at the edge of the galaxy, the stars her only audience.
