The construction noise started again, right on schedule. Liam was used to it. The neighbor, however, would have a bad time. He was already feeling bad.

He knew the man, Mr. Davies, was recently widowed and easily upset. He missed his wife deeply. Liam pictured him, alone in his apartment, with the noise all around him.

He clenched his fists, feeling the stress in his own chest. He had to do something, anything, to alleviate his neighbor’s torment. The thought of Mr. Davies, trapped in his apartment, made him uneasy. He found his way to his phone.
