Liam found the manuscript under the mattress. It was a dog-eared, hand-written thing, detailing Sarah’s daily routines, her anxieties, her small triumphs. His heart rate had begun to increase.

He started reading, expecting some kind of betrayal. The words, however, did not reveal bitterness. The Sarah in the book was flawed, but loved. He noticed the descriptions of her small hands, her laugh that was like wind chimes.

He pictured Sarah, her face illuminated by the soft glow of the lamp across their bed. He felt the familiar warmth in his chest. A sudden impulse made him want to hold her. He immediately turned off the light.
