"Oh, my God," sighed Eleanor, fingers trembling. She had been searching for a document in the shared folder on their computer. Instead, she had found a folder called “The Muse.”

Inside were chapters of a novel, detailing her childhood, her parents' divorce, and her career aspirations. The fictionalized Eleanor was struggling, alone. The character's desperation was palpable.

She felt a tightening in her throat. The prose revealed her fears, her vulnerabilities. His descriptions of her, like the way her hair fell, were so detailed. She felt a stirring in her stomach. That this man saw all of her, and wrote it down.
