The late afternoon sun cast long shadows across Mrs. Gable’s meticulously manicured lawn. Her knock startled Sarah, who was elbows-deep in a rose bush. Mrs. Gable, usually so stoic, wrung her hands. “Could… could I possibly use a corner of your yard? Just a small patch?” Her voice was barely a whisper.

Sarah immediately pictured Mrs. Gable’s small, cramped apartment, the one she’d always been so proud of keeping tidy. A garden, a chance to get her hands dirty… that must be the thing she’d been missing. "Of course," Sarah said, feeling the warmth of kindness spread through her. "Take whatever space you need. And I'll help you get started if you want." She smiled, already picturing vibrant vegetables next to her roses.
