"So, you're saying… you're going to stop eating meat?" Daniel’s voice cracked. His brother, Michael, was calmly explaining his decision to adopt Jainism. The idea that his brother would abandon their family's tradition of Sunday barbecues was unthinkable. Daniel felt a knot tighten in his gut.

He pushed his plate away, suddenly losing his appetite. The aroma of grilled chicken, usually so appealing, now filled him with a sense of dread. The conversation, once lighthearted, had become a minefield. Each carefully chosen word felt like a potential explosion. He felt trapped.

“But what about… family gatherings?” Daniel asked, the question laced with a desperate plea.

Michael shrugged. "I'll bring my own food."
