The office door clicked shut behind him, leaving David alone with the new guy, Kevin. His fists clenched and unclenched. He had to be calm, he kept telling himself.

“Right, so, this is the coding structure. It’s… straightforward,” he said, his voice sounding oddly disconnected from his body. He felt a throbbing sensation in his temples.

He sat down, trying to appear relaxed. He pointed at the screen. Kevin seemed to understand instantly, which was a relief. The feeling of being relieved only made it worse.

He glanced at his watch. The minutes were crawling by. The sooner this was over, the better.
