Her breath came in shallow, rapid gasps. The article, splashed across the screen, felt like a judgment pronounced. She felt a burning sensation in her cheeks, and her skin seemed to prickle.

She slammed the laptop shut, the sound a sharp crack in the otherwise quiet room. She stood up abruptly, knocking her chair over. She felt a desperate need to move, to escape the confines of her apartment.

She grabbed her keys and coat, her hands shaking so badly she could barely fit the key in the lock. The air outside was cold, but she hardly noticed. She just began walking, her pace quickening with each stride.
