Gemotions

The silence in the library was oppressive. Emily slowly turned the pages of the book, her heart pounding in her chest. The passages, the words, were familiar, yet foreign. They were from her story, but now they belonged to someone else. Her hero, the award-winning author, had stolen them.

She felt a hot flush creep up her neck, spreading across her face. Her hands felt clumsy, awkward. She ran her fingers through her hair, tangling it further. The library, once her sanctuary, now felt like a prison.

She pushed back the chair, abruptly, and rose, knocking over the small table at her side. The noise echoed through the room. She felt a sob catch in her throat. She had to get out.
