Gemotions

The phone vibrated in her hand. It was a text from the apartment manager. "Noise complaint received." She read it again, and again, the words somehow sharper with each repetition.

She threw the phone onto the bed. Her entire body felt like a coiled spring. The music had been loud, admittedly. She knew that now. She had allowed herself to forget.

She wandered aimlessly around her apartment, touching objects, the worn sofa, the stack of books. Each movement felt sluggish, heavy, as though she were moving underwater. She needed to do something, anything, to make this feeling go away.
