He stared at the handwritten list, his stomach sinking with each line he read. "Visit every national park." He felt a tightening in his shoulders. He always thought they were both content with the way things were. He wasn't.

He pushed his glasses up his nose, his hand trembling slightly. Number six: "Learn to sail." The room felt suddenly too warm, stuffy. He felt the blood pounding in his ears. He wasn’t sure how to feel.

He walked to the window, staring out at the street. The world outside felt distorted, as if seen through a funhouse mirror. He needed air.
