The MRI results, the wrong ones, were flashing on the screen, a swirling vortex of images she didn’t understand, but that chilled her to the core. The radiologist was explaining a tumor, a mass, in the wrong place. The scan wasn't hers. It couldn't be.

She sat rigid in the chair, her body frozen. A coldness spread from her core, seeping into her limbs, making them feel heavy and unresponsive. Her vision blurred, and the room began to spin slightly.

Each breath felt like a monumental effort. She wanted to bolt, to run, to scream into the vast emptiness that was suddenly threatening to swallow her whole. The doctor’s voice faded. All that mattered was the image on the screen, a harbinger of a reality that didn’t belong to her, but that might, somehow, come to be.
