The first meeting. The words felt like sandpaper in her mouth. She barely managed a polite greeting. Her heart hammered against her ribs, a frantic drumbeat against the silence.

She sat at the long table, a stranger in a room full of strangers. The vibrant colors of the marketing posters on the wall seemed to mock her drab attire and her introverted nature. She wanted to shrink, to disappear beneath the table and never come out.

She nodded along, trying to appear engaged, but her mind was a whirlwind of anxieties. She couldn't focus on the presenter's words.
