"So, you're the new guy!" The voice boomed, startling him. He jumped, spilling coffee down his crisp white shirt. He stammered a response, the words catching in his throat.

The IT department. The place he had always dreaded. He pictured the incessant calls, the technical jargon, the constant troubleshooting. The thought of failing, of appearing incompetent in front of his new colleagues, made his stomach lurch.

He wanted to turn and run, to retreat back to the familiar sanctuary of the mailroom. He felt a primal urge to flee.
