I wanted to throw my laptop across the room. The name on the screen mocked me. It was from Robert. My heart stuttered. The past, a relentless, unwelcome guest, had decided to reappear.

I paced the room, unable to sit still. Every muscle in my body felt tight. It was a suffocating pressure that seemed to be growing. I felt a sudden urge to scream. I bit my lip, forcing back the rising tide of panic.

My hands flew to my face, covering my eyes. The memories, sharp and painful, flooded my senses. I felt like I was back in the schoolyard, helpless and alone.
