Gemotions

The weight of the silence was crushing. He’d found a staircase behind the bookshelf. Now, at the foot of the stairs, he hesitated. The air grew noticeably colder. He could feel the hairs on the back of his neck prickling.

He took a shaky breath. The musty smell of the room was overpowering, making him want to cough. Each creak of the aging wood beneath his shoes felt amplified, echoing in the confined space.

“This can’t be…” He couldn't finish the thought. Something primal, something deep within him, was screaming for him to flee. He could almost feel eyes watching him.
