The silence in Sarah’s apartment was deafening. The news, a cold, hard fact. She had opened the email with a casual shrug, expecting a fun exploration of her roots. Instead, she had unraveled. She felt a profound and unsettling emptiness.

She wandered aimlessly through her apartment, touching familiar objects, the photographs on the wall, the books on the shelf. Each one now felt tainted, alien.
