“This is beautiful,” the host gushed, the words cutting through the noisy restaurant. David felt his face drain of color. He’d been trying to forget. Trying to move on.

His hands fidgeted, tracing the rim of the water glass. A cold sweat erupted on his forehead. The waiter, noticing his distress, gave a concerned look.

He had to leave. He rose and muttered something about a phone call. He walked quickly out the front door, fleeing from the music and the admiring glances. He felt his life shattering, all over again.
