Gemotions

The afternoon sun streamed into the living room, but Emily felt a deep chill. The brittle paper felt like ice against her skin. It was a note, a parting, from her mother to a place of employment that she had been utterly unaware of. Her breath caught in her throat. She gripped the letter so tightly, she thought it might disintegrate.

The room seemed to spin, the familiar furniture taking on a distorted, ominous air. Her vision blurred, and the world narrowed. A wave of nausea washed over her. She gripped the edge of the table, her knuckles white. She was drowning in the unknown.
