He stared at his reflection in the bathroom mirror, not recognizing the man staring back. The email, with its devastating content, had already begun to re-write his entire understanding of his life. He felt… exposed.

He splashed cold water on his face, but it did nothing to soothe the burning in his chest. His hands trembled as he reached for a towel. He felt like his legs would give out.

He leaned against the sink, his breathing shallow and rapid. The world seemed to be closing in around him. He felt like he was drowning in an invisible, suffocating substance.
