Gemotions

The telephone sat on the table, menacingly. It had rung earlier, a woman’s voice on the other end, confirming the letter's chilling words. Now, it sat there, a black, silent threat. He found he could not touch it.

He sat on the couch, rigid. His muscles ached. He kept replaying the brief conversation in his mind, each word a new source of unease. He felt as if someone had punched him in the gut.

He got up and started to walk, but realized he was just going in circles, unable to find a clear path. The world had shifted on its axis, and he felt profoundly disoriented.
