Gemotions

The flowers arrived in the dead of night, left on the doorstep. A small, elegant box filled with dark, velvety orchids. No note. The darkness outside seemed to press in on her, and she found herself barely able to breathe.

She crouched down, her hand outstretched, but retracted it. She didn't want to touch it. She didn't want to bring it inside.

She slowly, deliberately, closed the door again, then locked it, bolted it, and chained it. The orchids sat on the doorstep, a chilling reminder of something she thought she had escaped.
