He stared at the notice, the words blurring before his eyes. A cold numbness spread from his extremities, making him feel removed from his own body. He felt a distinct pressure in his ears, a buzzing sound that grew louder with each passing moment.

He dropped the paper, letting it flutter to the floor. The apartment, once a refuge from the world, now felt alien, hostile. The familiar objects around him – the worn armchair, the overflowing bookshelf – seemed to mock him with their permanence, their vulnerability.

He felt paralyzed, unable to move, unable to think. All he could do was stand there, rooted to the spot, listening to the relentless pounding of his own heart.
