Clara, usually a stickler for rules and schedules, found herself deviating. She had been sent a photo by a stranger: her whimsical, dreamlike landscape, now a fixture on their leg. She smiled. She went out, bought some fresh groceries, and prepared a big, elaborate meal for herself.

As she sat, eating, she thought about the stranger. She imagined the way they moved through the world, her painting with them. She felt a peacefulness she had rarely experienced. She poured another glass of wine and smiled.
