Gemotions

The scent of roasting chicken filled the air as David stepped through the door, a familiar and comforting aroma he hadn't experienced in years. His mother, bless her heart, had clearly gone all out. He closed the door, the latch clicking with a solid, reassuring sound. A small, involuntary smile played on his lips.

He kicked off his shoes and felt the plush carpet beneath his feet, a luxury his own shoebox apartment had sorely lacked. The living room, bathed in the warm glow of the setting sun, looked exactly as he remembered it, a haven of comfortable furniture and cherished memories. He moved to the kitchen, where his mother had already set out the table.

“Smells divine, Mom,” he said, his voice laced with genuine pleasure. His mom beamed, her eyes crinkling at the corners. He walked over to her and gave her a hug, feeling his heart swell.
