A broad smile stretched across Mateo's face as he watched his children play in the park, their laughter echoing in the crisp autumn air. His invention, a device to convert ocean waves into electricity, seemed doomed when he learned of a pre-existing patent. He had felt deflated, his dreams of providing clean energy fading. Now, seeing how the initial patent was used, he was happy. The company was building the power plant in a poor nation, bringing clean power to an area that desperately needed it.
