The late afternoon sun slanted through the living room window, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air. John watched as his roommate, David, meticulously organized his collection of vintage vinyl records. The tension from their disagreement about getting a pet iguana still lingered, thick and unyielding.

He took a slow sip of the iced tea David had made earlier. He felt the tension ease slightly. John felt an almost overwhelming sense of contentedness. His life was good; even with its imperfections, it offered him plenty of happiness.

He walked over to the record player and selected a jazz album. The music filled the room, and John allowed himself to let go of the animosity. He realized that a friendship as strong as theirs could withstand the silly arguments that came with sharing a life.
