“Are you sure you’re okay with this, Leo?” His sister, Clara, asked over the phone. He was throwing a low-key backyard BBQ; his close friend, David, was renting out a brewery.

“Absolutely,” he replied, his voice laced with genuine cheer. He was thrilled to have his family and close friends together. He loved David, but wasn't a fan of the limelight and David's party was going to be filled with it.

He carefully arranged the skewers, the aroma of grilling meat filling the air. He pictured his guests, chatting and laughing, enjoying the simple pleasures of the day. A quiet peace settled over him, a sense of belonging he had been craving. The warmth in his chest intensified.
