"A D? Seriously?" Ethan slammed his textbook shut. Anger surged through him. He’d sacrificed so much for this class. His head ached. He was about to throw the book across the room when he remembered his best friend, who was struggling with a serious illness. His friend had so much less.

Ethan put down the book. He walked over to the window and took a deep breath of the fresh evening air. The stars were brilliant tonight. He knew he had the chance to improve his grade. He would get up early to do it.
