The letter lay open on the kitchen table. David reread the sentence, savoring each word. The scholarship, which would have meant endless hours of studying what he didn't care about, was off the table.

He bounced on the balls of his feet, feeling an uncontrollable urge to move. He imagined being a musician, his fingers dancing across the guitar strings, the music pouring out of him. He wasn't trapped.

He picked up his guitar, a goofy grin plastered across his face. He began to strum, the chords echoing his elation. He had a future. He could finally breath.
