Liam was on his way to his drab cubicle when he reached for his mail. He almost tossed the unopened envelopes into his recycling bin, but something about a small, brightly colored card caught his eye. He stopped dead. It was his birthday tomorrow.

He tore it open, fingers trembling slightly. The card featured a vibrant illustration of a rocket ship blasting off. A swell of… something… bubbled up within him. He skipped the bus and walked to work, whistling a forgotten tune. He was practically bouncing on the balls of his feet. He couldn't stop grinning.
