"It's a complete match, Mr. Chen." The patent examiner sounded apologetic, but Thomas didn't even notice. He was staring at the screen, his mind already racing with possibilities. The self-stirring soup spoon, his brainchild, was someone else's.

He ran his hand through his already messy hair, a manic energy coursing through him. His pulse hammered against his ribs.

"Well," he said, his voice thick with a strange kind of merriment. "That’s…fascinating." He started pacing, a blur of nervous energy. He began planning the next one, the next big thing, the next chance. He couldn't wait.
