The rejection letter crackled in Amelia’s hand. The self-tying shoelaces, the culmination of two years of work, denied. The news she had dreaded was here.

She was surprised by the lack of disappointment. Instead, a strange lightness bloomed in her chest. She reread the document, a slow smile spreading across her face. Someone else, had already thought of it.

She spun around in her chair, her laughter echoing in the small workshop. This was great news! She took a deep breath. She could feel a strange pressure build up inside her, and started humming under her breath.
