I couldn’t stop pacing. My fingers twitched, itching to click ‘purchase’ on the reptile supply website. A vibrant green iguana, a miniature dinosaur, would be perfect. I’d researched everything: the enclosure, the diet, the proper temperature regulation.

Sarah, my roommate, would probably threaten to move out. She had an aversion to anything remotely scaly. But, oh, the idea of having a tiny, prehistoric creature to care for set my insides alight. My face felt warm, my cheeks burning.
