Rain lashed against the windows of the art gallery, mirroring the chaotic joy bubbling inside Leo. He'd seen Chloe across the room, at the opening for her latest exhibition, and his heart had lurched. The woman he had loved had forgotten him. Now he had the chance to start fresh.

He approached her, a knot of anticipation tightening his chest. "Chloe? It's Leo. We were in the same art class in high school," he said, trying to sound casual. Her brow furrowed, a slight wrinkle appearing between her eyebrows. She really didn't recognize him.

"I'm afraid I don't remember a Leo from those days," she replied, her voice polite but distant. Leo found himself practically bouncing on the balls of his feet. He felt a ridiculous urge to start whistling. "No worries! Lovely art, by the way!" he declared, and then, he practically skipped off.
